Greta Thunberg lookalike in 120yo photo sparks time-travel theories

The internet is alive with a brand new conspiracy theory today: That climate change activist Greta Thunberg is a time-traveller sent from the past to save the planet.

This fun idea comes to us courtesy of an old photo from the University of Washington Libraries which features a Thunberg lookalike gold mining in the Yukon in 1898.

One of the children in the 120-year-old photo bears an uncanny resemblance to the 16-year-old Swede, whose impassioned UN address went viral earlier this year.

It wasn't long before media outlets and online commentators noticed the similarities, developing their own theories about how this curious coincidence came to be.

"So, 'Greta Thunberg' is in a photo from 120 years ago, and it's my new favourite conspiracy," one Twitter user wrote.

"Greta's a time traveller, from the future, and she's here to save us."

"I can't believe Greta Thunberg is a time traveller we have to listen," said another.

"And so Greta Thunberg finds herself leaping from life to life..." one commenter pondered.

"Striving to put right what once went wrong and hoping each time that her next leap... will be the leap home."

Some, unsure of the legitimacy of Thunberg as an inter-dimensional explorer, saw an opportunity to educate the masses on the subject regardless.

"Is Greta Thunberg a time traveller?  Let's say only, that, there are those among US that are not from this time or dimension or quantum reality," one tweet read.

"How humans understand time is linear and wrong. Time is a sphere."

Thunberg has yet to publicly comment on her position in the space-time continuum.
