Hasbro has released a long version of Monopoly and it's set to keep players entertained for hours.

The new edition is called Longest Game Ever, and it has 66 properties on it compared with 28 in the original.

An advertisement for the game said: "Think the original Monopoly game takes forever to play? It's got nothing over this edition of the Monopoly game! Longest…Monopoly game…ever.

"Even bankruptcy won't get a player out of this Monopoly game! The game doesn't end until someone owns every single property - and there are three versions of each in this board game," the advertisement said.

The new game only comes with one dice, so there are no extra turns when you throw doubles.

Hasbro encourages friends and family to gather to play for hours on end. The game finishes when a player owns all 66 properties, 16 streets, four railroads and two utilities.

Social media users were split on the Longest Game Ever. Some Facebook commenters said they had already pre-ordered the new game, but others thought the original game was already long enough.

One person said the new version is their "worst nightmare" and another said the regular game was "bad enough".

Other commenters joked about the tension Monopoly creates among friends and family, and one person said the game "comes with a free visit from a marriage counsellor and child social services".

The isn't the first gimmick-version of Monopoly. Previous games include Monopoly for Millennials, Monopoly Socialism: Winning is for Capitalists and Monopoly: Star Wars Episode I.
