Libertines singer Pete Doherty has been arrested in Paris for allegedly attempting to purchase cocaine.

The Guardian reports that police watched Doherty make a drug deal in the street before he was arrested around 3am Paris time.

The incident took place in the Pigalle district, a suburb described by the Daily Mail as ‘seedy’ and well known for its late-night bars.

Doherty's arrest comes as the recently reunited Libertines prepare for a tour of Europe that is scheduled to start on November 18.

The band has yet to publically comment and it is unclear if the arrest will affect the start date of the tour.

Doherty has had a well-publicised battle with heroin and cocaine addiction. In 2012 he was thrown out a luxury rehab in Thailand being told he was a bad influence on other patients.

Speaking to The Guardian earlier this year, the 40-year-old said he was still working on overcoming his addictions calling them a “mental deficiency.”

The former boyfriend of Kate Moss said he would “be a force to be reckoned with” if he was sober.
