Rapper T.I.'s revelation that he takes his 18-year-old daughter for annual doctor's visits to check her hymen has been dubbed "disgusting and horrible" online.

The 'Whatever You Like' hitmaker was appearing on the Ladies Like Us podcast when he revealed his bizarre parenting tactics.

"I will say, as of her 18th birthday, her hymen is still intact," T.I. said of his daughter, Deyjah Imani Harris.

The hip-hop star said he made a point of taking Deyjah to the gynaecologist each year the day after her birthday, in an attempt to confirm her virginity.

"Usually, like the day after the party, she's enjoying her gifts. I put a sticky note on the door: 'Gyno. Tomorrow. 9.30'."

T.I. explained that because of patient confidentiality rules, his daughter must agree to allow to doctor to share the results of the exam with her father.

"I'm like, 'Deyjah they want you to sign this so we can share information. Is there anything you wouldn't want me to know? See doc? No problem.'"

When the specialist pointed out that a woman's hymen can break from physical activities other than sex, T.I. said he argued back.

"So I say, 'Look doc, she don't ride no horses, she don't ride no bike, she don't play no sports. Just check the hymen please and give me back my results expeditiously.'"

The confession has set Twitter on fire, with many social media users condemning the practice as "misogynistic" and "sickening".

"Holy f**king shit this is so scary and assault-y and possessive and awful," one tweet read.

"That doctor should be stripped of his license."

"Somebody should inform @Tip that not only are hymen virginity tests often inaccurate (many women don't bleed their first time), but that virginity tests are misogynistic bullshit that can be exploited by rape culture and commodified in capitalism," said another.

"If you're defending T.I.'s atrocious practice of having his 18-year-old daughter's hymen checked, and the gynaecologist violating HIPPA to accommodate T.I.'s creepy request, then you're a disgusting misogynist, too," wrote another Twitter user.

"Women are not your property. Not even your daughter."

T.I. further enraged listeners when he admitted the same rules don't apply to his 15-year-old son King, who told his dad he was sexually active at age 14.

"I don't want any of my children to have sex before it's time for them, but who's to say when it's time?" he said.

"However, I will definitely feel different about a boy than I will about a girl. That's just the God's honest truth.

"I don't think there's any father out there who'll tell you any different."

Last month, the rapper caused outrage on his own podcastExpediTIously, when he told his wife Tiny Harris: "That little thing you got, that little sex box you got is half mine".
