George Michael's sister Melanie Panayiotou has died aged 55 on Christmas Day.

Panayiotou's death appears to be on the same day, three years apart from her brother, a famous singer.

Police were called by London Ambulance Service at approximately 7:35 pm on Wednesday, December 25 (local time) to reports of the sudden death of a woman, aged in her 50s.

Police are treating the death as not suspicious.

Panayiotou's lawyer has asked the public to respect the family's privacy at this very sad time.

Andrew Ridgeley, who was a member of Wham! with Michael, said Panayiotou's death was utterly tragic news.

"My thoughts are with her sister and father at this desperately sad time," he posted.

Earlier in November, Panayiotou wrote about the film Last Christmas starring Game of Thrones frontwoman Emilia Clarke and Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding.

According to Panayiotou, the film was emboldened by her brother's music.

She told The Big Issue she hopes viewers enjoy the film.

"Yog’s (George) music, old and new, [was] woven beautifully into this fun, easy tale of love and self-love.

"As many of you know, Yog adored Christmas and he loved the idea of this film."
