'Proud' Taika Waititi jokes about Jojo Rabbit's Golden Globe nominations

Taika Waititi says he's proud Jojo Rabbit is nominated for two 2020 Golden Globe awards, but couldn't resist joking about the honour.

The Kiwi filmmaker conspicuously pointed out his anti-hate satire was categorised as a "musical or comedy" and questioned there being no award for "Best Font on a Poster".

Waititi tweeted on Tuesday morning after the film scored Best Film and Best Actor nods.

"My musical or comedy is nominated for a #GoldenGlobe!

"Congrats to all involved but I'm most proud of my little friend, @RomanGriffinDavis, on his best actor nomination!

"Still nothing for Best Font on a Poster which is so weird, but oh well."

Jojo Rabbit, set in Nazi-era Germany, has reportedly pulled in close to US$25 million internationally off a US$14 million budget.

Fellow Kiwi Anthony McCarten also earned a Golden Globe nomination for his screenplay The Two Popes.

The awards will be handed out at a ceremony in Los Angeles on January 5, which will be January 6 in New Zealand.
