The Edge hires waiter Jayden King as Sharyn Casey's new co-host

The Edge radio station has announced its new afternoon show star set to co-host with Sharyn Casey: a waiter named Jayden King.

King will replace Jono Pryor and Ben Boyce, who announced they were leaving the show in October.

The budding radio broadcaster beat out 348 other applicants for the role in a competition run by The Edge called Quit Your Day Job.

"Here he is! My new pal in the arvo the legend that is @jaydencreechking!!" Casey wrote of her new colleague on Instagram.

"I can't wait for you to get to know him in 2020, he tells a hell of a good story, is resourceful on a sandwich press and not to mention one of the most genuine people you’ll ever meet."

King was surprised by the news of his new job at a fake meeting which was actually a room full of people with confetti cannons.

"I feel like I'm proposing to you, but Jayden, will you quit your day job and come work with me?" Casey asked King in the clip.

"Holy heck... yes!" King replied.

"The guy is walking sunshine," Casey said in a statement.

"You only have to meet Jayden once and you want to be his mate so I can't wait for our listener pals to meet their bestie, who's guaranteed keep them entertained on a daily basis."

King will join Casey on the Edge Afternoon's Show in mid-January.
