Bobbi Kristina Brown's ex Nick Gordon dies from suspected drug overdose

Nick Gordon, the former fiancé of Whitney Houston's late daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, has died from a suspected drug overdose.

The 30-year-old reportedly suffered a series of heart attacks after he was taken into intensive care on December 31 in Florida. He died on New Year's Day (local time).

According to the Daily Mail, a source close to Gordon suggested he had been partying and taking drugs before passing out. He was allegedly "dumped" by his friends at a hospital in Florida.

"While I cannot speak to the specific circumstances of his death, I can say that it's been truly heartbreaking to have witnessed firsthand the total devastation that drug addiction has wreaked upon a group of young friends," Gordon's lawyer, Joe Habachy, told E! News.

In an emotional Facebook post, Gordon's brother, Junior Walker, said he had spoken to his sibling the night before his death.

"All I can do is cry," Junior said in a post, later shared by the Daily Mail.

Another sibling, Jack Walker, told local media the family is "devastated by the loss of my beautiful brother". He added that Gordon's "battle in life was not an easy one".

A prolific drug user, Gordon was held legally responsible for the wrongful death of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown's daughter. Bobbi Kristina spent six months in an induced coma after Gordon found her face down in a bathtub. She died in July 2015, aged 22.

Gordon maintained his innocence, claiming he attempted to resuscitate her. However, he was found legally responsible for Brown's wrongful death by default, after he failed to appear in court for a lawsuit filed against him by Brown's estate. He was never criminally charged.

The Medical Examiner's office revealed Brown had cannabis, alcohol and prescription medication in her system, ruling her cause of death as immersion associated with drug intoxication. Her death mirrored that of her mother's in 2012, who drowned in a bathtub with a number of drugs, primarily cocaine, in her system. Houston was 48.

Gordon was taken in by Houston as a 12-year-old, regarding Brown as his "lil sis" before their relationship became romantic. Their controversial engagement was confirmed in October 2012.

Gordon's on-and-off relationship with former girlfriend Laura Leal was marked by bouts of violence, leading to several arrests for domestic abuse.
