Hilary Duff as Lizzie McGuire in new Disney Plus video excites fans

A glimpse of Hilary Duff as Lizzie McGuire in the latest Disney Plus promo video is stirring up excitement for fans ahead of the series reboot this year.

In a video released on Thursday (NZT) unveiling its programming for the year, the streaming service teased what its subscribers can expect on their screens this year. From Toy Story 4 and Aladdin, to The Lion King and the new season of Lizzie McGuire, viewers took to Twitter buzzing with excitement.

While the Lizzie clip only lasts for a split second and all actress Hilary Duff says is "hi, it's me", it was more than enough to thrill some fans.

"New year, same me screaming over a 1 second clip of Lizzie McGuire," one person said.

Another person showed their appreciation of the reboot with a gif of Lizzie singing 'What Dreams are Made Of', a song from 2003's The Lizzie McGuire Movie.

One social media user says they're preparing for the reboot by rewatching the entire original series all over again, "to be ready".

Lizzie McGuire originally aired on Disney Channel from 2001 to 2004. It followed the life of 13-year-old Lizzie and her friends Miranda and Gordo during the ups and downs of teenage life.

Another 'character' was Lizzie's animated avatar, who monologued her inner thoughts.

Adam Lamberg, who played Gordo in the original series, is confirmed to appear in the reboot, along with actors Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine and Jake Thomas, who played Lizzie's mum, dad and brother respectively.

According to Variety, the new series will follow Lizzie's adventures in New York City where she lives "the perfect life" and is preparing to celebrate her 30th birthday.

"Lizzie has grown up, she's older, she's wiser, she has a much bigger shoe budget," Hilary Duff said during a Disney Plus event in August 2019.

"She has her dream job, the perfect life right now working as an apprentice to a fancy New York City decorator."

Disney hasn't confirmed a release date for the Lizzie McGuire reboot, but it will be released in 2020.
