Scorpions, Whitesnake show at Auckland's Spark Arena cancelled due to 'medical emergency'

The Scorpions and Whitesnake show due to take place at Auckland's Spark Arena on Thursday has been cancelled.

The show's promoter says this was due to "a medical emergency within the Scorpions tour party" and "insurmountable logistical issues".

Scorpions, a German rock band, and English hard rock band Whitesnake were due to play on February 27.

However last week Scorpions frontman Klaus Meine revealed he was forced to undergo surgery after a "painful attack" of kidney stones in Australia.

Tickets booked online or over the phone with a credit card, will be refunded automatically. Tickets purchased from a Ticketmaster outlet will need to be returned to that outlet with the tickets and credit card or photo ID used to make the booking.

The announcement comes just a week after Sir Elton John was forced to postpone his Mt Smart concerts to 2021 due to ill-health.

The artist was diagnosed with walking pneumonia and had to stop midway through his first Auckland concert after losing his voice

"I always want to be able to give 100 percent and I'm afraid that, right now, I'm not able to do that," he said in a statement afterwards.

"I am grateful for the love and loyalty I have been shown by all of you and I can't wait to return in January next year to perform my final New Zealand shows."

Tickets for Sir Elton's Wednesday 19 February (previously Tuesday 18) concert will be valid for Friday 15 January 2021.

Tickets for the Thursday 20 February show will be valid for Saturday 16 January 2021.

Those unable to make the January shows can contact Ticketmaster to request a refund.
