Shaun Johnson and his wife Kayla Cullen have announced they are expecting their first child on Instagram.

The NRL star and the NSW Swifts netballer confirmed on Instagram they are expecting a baby girl who is due in August 2020.

The couple, who got married in 2019, said on their respective Instagram accounts they are very excited about the arrival of #babyjohnson.

Johnson shared a picture of the soon-to-be parents with an ultrasound photograph, while Cullen shared three including one of the couple holding "I Love Mum" and "I Love Dad" children's socks.

Cullen, 28, also let fans know her sporting career would be put on hold while the couple adjusts to parenting life.

"Although this puts netball in the backseat and unfortunately I won't be suiting up in the red dress with the Swifts girls for 2020, this isn't the end of my netball journey," she wrote.

"Hopefully this soon to be whale [sic] will be back on that court in the near future."

She thanked her fellow players, coaches and staff for being supportive and said she would be watching from the sidelines.
