Marianne Faithfull has been discharged from hospital after a frightening COVID-19 diagnosis that left the singer fighting for her life.

The 73-year-old was admitted to hospital 22 days ago according to a tweet on her account.

"She will continue to recuperate in London," read the tweet.

Faithfull said she was grateful to all who had wished her well and to the frontline health professionals who had cared for her.

"[The NHS] without doubt, saved her life."

The 73-year-old 'Broken English' singer was in lockdown in London when she started to feel unwell, a friend told Rolling Stone in early April.

She checked into a hospital and tested positive for the disease, which has killed around 195,920 people around the world already - most of them in Faithfull's age range.

The UK currently has 144,635 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 19,566 people have died.
