Netflix's Too Hot To Handle show fines contestants for having sex or masturbating

A new reality dating show from Netflix has a bizarre twist that sees the young single contestants forbidden to have any kind of sexual contact with each other - and themselves - in order to win the grand prize.

The trailer for Too Hot To Handle begins in much the same way as popular shows like Love Island do - with a group of attractive, scantily-clad participants rating their own appearance and those of their fellow contestants.

"This retreat is full of the sexiest people in the world," one of the women tells the cameras.

The competition's catch is soon revealed to the group by an Alexa-esque device named Lana, who explains money from the $100,000 prize will be deducted for "any sexual activity" between participants.

"As if some robot is telling me I can't do anything!" one of the female contestants complains.

"It's not easy to go an extended period of time without any sexual release," adds one of the men.

The series, which premieres on April 17, bills itself as a "sexual adventure with a naughty twist", urging "deeper emotional connections" between the cast, who are described as "commitment-phobes who love a casual hook-up".

"No kissing, no heavy petting, and no self-gratification of any kind," the rules state.

"With every slip, the prize money goes down."

Exactly how and to what degree the group of 10 men and women will be monitored throughout the series is yet to be revealed - however, the trailer shows that several of the participants are quick to disregard the rules and get up close and personal with each other.

One of the contestants Harry Jowsey, known as 'Aussie Harry', will already be familiar to some Kiwi audiences from his appearance on the New Zealand reality show Heartbreak Island in 2018.

Other members of the cast include several models, a football player, a personal trainer, an actor/author and an Instagram influencer.
