Coronavirus lockdown: Ellie Goulding surprises NHS nurse bride with live performance at Zoom wedding

Ellie Goulding crashed the virtual wedding of an NHS nurse and her groom to surprise the couple with a live performance of what would have been their first dance song.

British nurse Hayley Pitman and her partner Harvey Skelton were forced to postpone their wedding due to the COVID-19 pandemic, then opted for an online ceremony via video conferencing platform Zoom.

The event was organised by wedding planning company For Better For Worse, who secretly arranged for pop superstar Ellie Goulding to make a special appearance.

"Congratulations Harvey and Hayley, you're both heroes, we all love you!" Goulding told the stunned newlyweds.

The Grammy nominee then played her hit song 'Love Me Like You Do' while the couple had their first dance.

"Thank you so much, that was incredible," Skelton told Goulding after the performance.

In a statement after the ceremony, the bride said she couldn't believe it when Goulding popped up on the screen.

"The appearance by one of our favourite singers Ellie Goulding was just the icing on the cake," she said.

"The memories of this will certainly keep us both going until we can celebrate properly later on in the year."
