Hilary Duff rejects 'disgusting' child sex trafficking accusation after sharing family photos

Hilary Duff has shut down a conspiracy theory that claims she is somehow involved with child sex trafficking after the singer and actor shared a photo of her son on social media.

The Lizzie McGuire star called the accusations "disgusting" and suggested the culprit behind the rumour "get a hobby".

According to multiple media outlets, Duff has since deleted the Instagram video that sparked the outrage, in which she pans across a wall of family photos, including a nude picture of her eight-year-old son. Duff explains she covered up part of the image with a sticker after someone on Instagram brought it to her attention.

But some social media users did not view the photo as a benign family snap and slung accusations of criminal activity at Duff via Twitter.

The mother-of-two eventually clapped back with a statement dubbing the claims "garbage".

"Everyone [is] bored AF right now I know..but this is actually disgusting," she tweeted.

"Whoever dreamed this one up and put this garbage into the universe should take a break from their damn phone. Maybe get a hobby."

A statement given to E! News by Duff's representative echoed those sentiments, reiterating that the accusations were nothing more than an "internet lie".

"Let me say this in the strongest terms, this is all a fabricated disgusting internet lie, created and perpetuated by trolls and idiots.

"Everyone who knows Hilary is fully aware what an amazing mom she is and that requires no further comment. If only people with this much time on their hands used their energy to solve real problems in the world."
