Newshub's Patrick Gower has taken out the best individual investigation prize at this year's Voyager Media Awards.

Gower won the award for his "confronting and painstaking" investigation into white supremacy following the Christchurch terror attack.

He also won the general reporting category.

"In a high quality field, Patrick Gower's portfolio was compelling viewing," judges Jessica Cartwright and Lynda van Kempen said.

"His portfolio was impressive - skilfully woven stories with universal appeal.

"It was made up of two two-part stories, one focusing on white supremacy in New Zealand and the other on White Island victims and heroes. His third story was a human-interest piece on the All Black Barrett brothers' younger sister Zara, who has Down Syndrome."

The Hui executive producer Annabelle Lee-Mather was judged editorial executive of the year, while Newshub was also runner-up for best coverage of a major news event (Christchurch terror attack).

Taking out the best news photography award for his work in the aftermath of the terror attack was George Heard - a Stuff video journalist at the time. Heard now works as a camera operator for Newshub.
