Naya Rivera: Grieving cast of Glee hold hands at lake in tribute to late co-star

Glee stars and family members have gathered at Lake Piru in California where the body of their castmate Naya Rivera has been recovered.

Rivera's co-star Heather Morris was one of the group of people photographed forming a human chain alongside the lakeside, holding hands as they looked out across the water.

Fans have claimed other Glee cast members including Amber Riley, Heather Morris, Chris Colfer, Jenna Ushkowitz and Kevin McHale were also in attendance.

In a press conference on Monday (local time) authorities said they were confident the body recovered from the lake was 33-year-old Rivera, who went missing last week after going for a boat ride. Her four-year-old son Josey was later found alone on the boat unharmed.

In an eerie coincidence, Rivera's body was discovered on the seventh anniversary of the death of Glee star Cory Monteith, who died in 2013 from a deadly cocktail of intoxicants, including heroin and alcohol.

Tributes for Rivera have flowed on social media, led by more of her former co-stars including Jane Lynch, who wrote: "Rest sweet, Naya. What a force you were. Love and peace to your family."

"Her brilliance and humour were unmatched," Glee actor Chris Colfer wrote in an Instagram tribute.

"Her beauty and talent were otherworldly. She spoke truth to power with poise and fearlessness... she inspired and uplifted people without even trying... Naya was truly one of a kind, and she always will be."

Meanwhile, actor Alex Newell sent her love to Rivera's family, particularly her young son, writing: "Josey you are truly loved by every single person who loves your mommy! I love you Naya!"
