Cardi B and conservative commentator Candace Owens are engaged in a war of words over the rapper's support for US presidential nominee Joe Biden.

The 'WAP' hitmaker addressed Owens in a video on Instagram she says she posted after members of her family were harassed in public.

Owens is an outspoken Donald Trump supporter who has made controversial statements on a range of issues, including spreading misinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic.

She recently criticised Cardi B for an interview she did with Biden, claiming the former US vice president thinks "black people are stupid" as he chose to sit down with an "illiterate rapper".

The Grammy Award-winner didn't hold back in her response.

"You want to call me a dumb bitch? You want to call me illiterate? Girl you're getting pimped out by a white man," Cardi B said.

"You've been [Trump's] cheerleader. You're a beautiful black woman… I don't know what black man broke your heart or what black woman [performed a sex act so poorly] that you hate your kind so much."

She also referred to Trump as Owens' "f**king feral cousin" who "told people to drink bleach".

Cardi B talked about having the number one song in many countries - mentioning New Zealand as one of them - and stated: "Just like I can make millions of people pop their p***y, I can make millions of people go vote."

At times in the video - which doesn't show her face - Cardi B appeared to get emotional when talking about alleged abuse her family members are being subjected to by Trump supporters.

She also shared a video taken by her sister Hennessy of a fiery confrontation she got into with Trump supporters who allegedly harassed her and her girlfriend.

"You wanted an answer from me Candace Owens, you've been coming for me for such a long time, you got the answer today," said Cardi B.

"You wanted an answer? Here you go, you have it. Now leave me alone bitch, I'm about to go and drink f**king chicken noodle soup."

Owens replied with a video on her own Instagram account shortly after calling Cardi B "a fraud" who is "hurting black America".

"I don't get paid by the Trump campaign - I say what I believe. You don't know what to do when you're looking at a black woman that's free. That's what your problem is," said Owens.

"You are uneducated when it comes to politics… the whole idea of Trump being homophobic is ridiculous and shows how uneducated you are."

Owens said Cardi B having the number one song in New Zealand has "nothing to do with Black America".

Owens also said Cardi B was "ignorant and stupid" for supporting universal health care, claiming that even Americans who support a public health plan acknowledge it would require "astronomical" tax rates of "74 percent".

Almost every country in the developed world has a universal health care system, while the highest income tax rate in the world is currently 58.95 percent in Aruba.

Owens also denied criticising Cardi B to get attention.

"I'm not in your zone, you're in mine. I get tired of your commenters and fans saying, 'Oh, she's clout-chasing'. I'd be clout-chasing if I was challenging you to a rap battle. I'm not doing that. You're in my area, you're in politics."

Cardi B has since responded to Owens' video, posting a clip on her own Instagram and calling the commentator a "lost soul" that "makes me so sad".
