American rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine was reportedly admitted to hospital after overdosing on diet pills and McDonald's coffee.

Speaking to gossip blog The Shade Room the 24-year-old rapper, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, said he was hospitalised after the toxic combination produced an overdose effect.

6ix9ine said he took two Hydroxycut diet pills in the space of a day instead of the recommended one and drank a McDonald's coffee.

The rainbow-haired rapper found himself sweating profusely with a soaring heart rate while seated at his computer. The overdose resulted in his hospitalisation in Florida on Monday.

6ix9ine said he hadn't taken any other drugs as this could severely affect his probation and he would be sent back to jail.

He's currently on probation after pleading guilty on a number of charges in February involving firearms, narcotics trafficking, violence, and racketeering conspiracy. He was released in April due to being at high risk for COVID-19.

6ix9ine was taking the diet pills to help aid weight loss after packing on the kilos in prison. He said he left prison weighing in at 90kgs and wants to get back down to his original weight of 68kgs.

6ix9ine has since left hospital and is now recovering at home.
