'The scariest one yet': Britney Spears' latest Instagram videos have fans more alarmed than ever

Britney Spears' latest series of Instagram videos have her already-worried fans more alarmed than ever, with followers sharing their concern over her appearance and mannerisms as she talks "nonsense" about how she spent her summer.

In the first video update, the 'Toxic' singer sports what's now become her trademark heavily lined eyes and dishevelled hairstyle, rocking gently back and forth as she addresses her fans.

"Okay so yesterday I felt like it was the beginning of fall," she said.

"I pulled out all of my jackets and then the next day it was really hot. It was very confusing.

"Anyhow this summer has been so much fun for me. I learned so much, I laughed so much, I swam so much."

The 38-year-old pop star added that the most important thing she'd learned was "that life has so many spontaneous gifts at each moment. Sometimes we need to slow down and learn how to embrace them all."

But fans of the Grammy winner weren't interested in her latest revelations, instead claiming it appeared Spears' speech was scripted and that she was hiding the distress she was in.

"Something's not right here!!! The rocking back and forth, the shaking in her voice, she sounds like she’s reading from a screen.... her team is setting this up!!!!" one fan wrote.

"This breaks my heart," said another, while a third said they felt this video, one in a string of troubling uploads from the star, was the "scariest one yet".

In a similar video uploaded the next day, Spears claimed people had been asking for more updates on her summer activities.

"I said: 'Sure, why not?'," she began.

"I think the highlights of my summer were basically two friends threw me in the pool and I had two small dinner parties," she said.

"From the looks of it, I think summer is still going," she added in a whisper.

The comments section quickly filled up with more messages from concerned followers, including one from fellow pop singer Bebe Rehxa.

"Britney I love you so much. You are an angel. I hope you are okay and happy. Or I'm going after someone," she wrote.

"There's something so unsettling about this," another commenter wrote.

The mother-of-two has long been the subject of the #FreeBritney campaign, championed by fans who suspect Spears is being held against her will, drugged and mistreated by her team and her family members.

The singer is currently embroiled in a legal battle with her father, who remains co-conservator of her affairs after taking over following her public psychiatric breakdown in 2007.

This week, Spears' petition to expand her legal team was granted, which many of her fans see as a "baby steps towards her freedom".
