Melania Trump plans to divorce Donald Trump after election defeat - source

Melania Trump is "counting every minute" until she can divorce President Donald Trump after his defeat in the US election, sources told the Daily Mail.

Trump's ex-aides are claiming that it's only a matter of time until the 15-year marriage comes to an end.

"Melania is counting every minute until he is out of the office and she can divorce," Trump's ex-assistant Omarosa Manigault Newman said.

"If Melania were to try to pull the ultimate humiliation and leave while he's in office, he would find a way to punish her."

Speaking on UK breakfast television programme Lorraine in October, Newman described Trump and Melania's relationship as "very strange".

"It's a very strange marriage," she told the show, "I'm very cautious to comment on the dynamics of a marriage because you never know what goes on behind closed doors.

"What I have observed in the last 17 years would make your head spin. Sometimes they like each other but sometimes she is repulsed by him."

President Trump's former aide Stephanie Wolkoff claimed Melania was negotiating a post-nuptial agreement to give their son Barron an equal share of Trump's fortune.

She also added Trump and Melania had separate bedrooms during their time at the White House.

The First Lady reportedly burst into tears when her husband was elected in 2016 with one friend saying, "she never expected him to win".

In August, footage of Melania and Trump disembarking Air Force One showed the First Lady pulling her hand away as they walk down the steps.

The footage sparked both amusement and debate on social media, with some accusing her of "social distancing her way into some divorce papers".

Despite allegations, both Trump and the First Lady claim they have a "great relationship" and "never argue" throughout the 15 years they have been married.
