Ashley Bloomfield safety message remix a hit at Rhythm and Vines festival

Kiwis have become used to seeing Ashley Bloomfield on a near daily basis this year, but few would have expected to see him perform at the Rhythm and Vines festival.

Video of the Director-General of Health appeared on the festival's big screen on Tuesday night, with his COVID-19 messaging around washing hands and staying safe blared to an audience of thousands as part of a remix played at the event.

Auckland DJ Macsen wrote on Instagram that he "teamed up with the one and only Dr Ashley Bloomfield to raise awareness about things we can all do to keep each other safe and make summer unstoppable".

"Keen an eye out for the track and video at festivals and events this summer!"

Video of the remix and Bloomfield's 'performance' has now gone viral online, with some festival goers saying it was the highlight of their night.

"That should be playing between sets at every festival in New Zealand," wrote one person online.

"Actually incredible," wrote another.

Not everyone was impressed though.

"Now that's what I call cringe," one person wrote after they heard it.

Rhythm and Vines runs from December 29 to 31 at Waiohika Estate in Gisborne.
