Eminem has apologised to Rihanna on a newly-released track for saying he would "side with Chris Brown", the artist who assaulted the Barbadian singer.

Last year, an unreleased Eminem song recorded in 2009 was leaked, with fans shocked to hear the rapper saying on the track that he would "side with Chris Brown" and "beat a bitch down". Brown in 2009 plead guilty to assaulting Rihanna, his then-girlfriend.

A spokesperson for Eminem last year said the rapper recorded the song before scrapping and rewriting it, while he and Rihanna had a "great relationship".

Rihanna and Eminem have collaborated numerous times, including on the chart-toppers 'Love the way you lie' and 'The Monster'. They also co-headlined The Monster Tour in 2014.

On Saturday, Eminem released the deluxe edition of his Music to be Murdered By album, which contains the track 'Zeus'.

On it, the rapper says: "I re-promise to be honest, and wholeheartedly, apologies, Rihanna, for that song that leaked, I'm sorry Ri. It wasn't meant to cause grief. Regardless it was wrong of me."

Fans were happy to hear the apology.

"I like the fact that Eminem apologized to Rihanna. A real man who has the balls to apologize to a woman when they know they were wrong," one tweeted.

"Eminem apologizing to Rihanna for the leaked song...I knew he felt bad about it - this is why I Stan this man… his heart," another wrote.
