Star Wars: Rogue Squadron film, several new Star Wars TV shows announced

Wonder Woman filmmaker Patty Jenkins is directing the next major Star Wars film, which will be released in late 2023.

Meanwhile, Taika Waititi's Star Wars movie is still in development, but it hasn't yet been announced what year that will be released.

Disney made the announcements at an investor day event where a staggeringly large amount of new content has been revealed, including several new Star Wars TV shows.

Jenkins' film, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, will "introduce a new generation of starfighter pilots as they earn their wings and risk their lives in a boundary-pushing, high-speed thrill-ride, and move the saga into the future era of the galaxy".

Among the other Star Wars announcements was the news that Hayden Christensen is reprising his role as Darth Vader alongside Ewan McGregor in a series entitled Obi-wan Kenobi, while Rangers of the New Republic and Ahsoka are two series that will both be "set within the timeline of The Mandalorian".

Among the other announcements Disney made is that a "huge collection" of content including the 21st Century Fox library will be added to streaming service Disney Plus as a new brand entitled Star.

Disney said in the little more than 12 months that have passed since it launched, Disney Plus has amassed 86.8 million paying subscribers around the world.
