A US man has won a lawsuit against his parents after they threw out his extensive collection of pornographic magazines, films, and sex toys.

Ottawa County parents Beth and Paul Werking were sued by their son David Werking, 42, on Friday after they binned what a judge has described as a "trove of pornography and an array of sex toys."

According to MLive Michigan, David is arguing the damages are worth around US$2500.

US District Judge Paul Maloney in Ottawa has granted David's request for summary judgement, meaning a decision regarding the cost of the raunchy lost property will be made without holding a trial.

The trio has until mid-February to file written submissions on damages, with David's attorney Miles Greengard arguing he should receive financial compensation.

Greengard was otherwise feeling stoked with the outcome saying the clash wasn't just an issue of a guy and his "dirty magazines."

"This was a collection of often irreplaceable items and property," he said.

The collection went missing after David moved from the family home in 2017 to Indiana and asked his parents to gather up and deliver his belongings to him.

Upon arrival of his belongings, he quickly discovered that a dozen boxes of pornographic magazines, films, and sex toys were missing.

David had moved back into the family home in late 2016 following his divorce. Before moving in, his parents warned he wouldn't be allowed to bring pornography into the home, and that if he did it would be destroyed.

According to MLive Michigan, David's father said he was doing him a favour by trashing the collection, the judge rejecting earlier requests from the parents to dismiss the case.

The parents also argued David abandoned his property and should have removed it himself to avoid losing anything.
