Burglars have reportedly attempted to rob Dr Dre's home while the rapper was in hospital after suffering a brain aneurysm.

Police arrested four men near the hip-hop legend's US$50 million mansion in the suburb of Brentwood at around 10pm on Tuesday night (local time), reports the LA Times.

Dr Dre has since posted on social media saying he's "doing great" as he recovers at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Security guards at the N.W.A. member's Brentwood property saw several men trying to get in, police told the LA Times, adding that the four men were apprehended after driving away from the area.

TMZ has also reported on the alleged burglary attempt, however that article says the arrests took place at around 2am.

In his Instagram message to supporters, Dr Dre posted a black and white photo of himself in a studio.

"Thanks to my family, friends and fans for their interest and well wishes," the post reads.

"I'm doing great and getting excellent care from my medical team. I will be out of the hospital and back home soon. Shout out to all the great medical professionals at Cedars. One Love!"
