Lil Wayne set to be pardoned by Donald Trump - report

US President Donald Trump is expected to issue up to 100 pardons before he leaves the White House this week - with rapper Lil Wayne reportedly one of the names on the list.

According to Fox News, Lil Wayne - real name Dwyane Carter - is expected to be let off the hook by Trump after authorities found a gold-plated gun and drugs in his bag at a Miami airport in 2019.

Carter threw his support behind Trump in the lead up to the November election, sharing an image of the pair on Instagram in October after what the rapper called "a great meeting".

"Besides what he's done so far with criminal reform, the platinum plan is going to give the community real ownership," Carter captioned the photo.

"He listened to what we had to say today and assured he will and can get it done."

Meanwhile, fellow hip-hop artist 50 Cent said he was "sure" Carter would have been paid to back Trump, claiming he was offered US$1 million himself to attend the president's inauguration in 2017.

"I passed on it," 50 Cent said in a radio interview with The Breakfast Club last year.

There are also rumours that Trump will pardon disgraced zoo owner Joe Exotic, who found viral fame through the Netflix series Tiger King in 2020. He is currently serving a 22-year sentence on murder-for-hire and wildlife-related charges.

During a press conference in April last year, the President said he would "take a look" at Exotic's case, and in November, retweeted a post from a Republican representative saying Trump should pardon himself and Exotic.
