Pop star Bebe Rexha has responded to false rumours that claimed she died of a drug overdose, confirming she is very much alive and had simply been taking a break from social media.

"Jeez I stay offline for three days and not only am I dead but I died of a drug overdose?!?!" she tweeted.

One fake tweet claimed that CNN had confirmed the singer's death, even going as far as including a photo of an unknown body on a hospital gurney and a false statement from Rexha's family.

"Bebe Rexha has passed away due to a drug overdose in her California home. Bebe's family has released a press statement saying 'she was the light in our lives. We would appreciate some privacy in this difficult time'," the post read.

"OMG God forbid what the hell," Rexha responded along with a screenshot of the tweet.

"That's messed up, God forbid."

"I'm shaking," one fan responded, with another calling the rumours "disgusting".

Meanwhile, Rexha was able to see the funny side of the bizarre situation, following up with a tweet that read: "I'm a ghost. I'm tweeting from your bedroom closet. Boo bitch."
