Danny Watson to replace Sean Plunket on Magic Talk alongside Leah Panapa

Magic Talk has announced broadcaster Danny Watson will host the afternoon slot previously held by Sean Plunket, alongside the station's current night show host Leah Panapa.

MediaWorks announced controversial broadcaster Plunket would be departing his role with the station after he tweeted his support for fill-in host John Banks, who was axed for his handling of a racist caller late last month

Experienced talkback host Watson says he's chomping at the bit to get back behind the mic.

"After hosting afternoon talkback for 15 years on Newstalk ZB up until the end of 2015, I've been busy building papa kāinga for the whānau and I’m now ready for a new challenge," he said in a statement.

"I can't wait to get back into radio, re-engage with listeners and work alongside Leah."

Panapa, who has been hosting the Magic Nights show for the past two years, said she's looking forward to "having conversations with Kiwis about the issues affecting them, their communities and New Zealand".

Meanwhile, veteran broadcaster Graeme Hill will take over the evening programme on Magic Talk, from 7 - 10pm each weekday.

MediaWorks director of content Leon Wratt said it was "fantastic" to have Hill and his "unique style and view of the world" join the lineup.

Afternoons with Danny Watson and Leah Panapa will launch from midday on Monday, March 1, and Nights with Graeme Hill will begin the following week.
