Britney Spears lists Miley Cyrus, Natalie Portman and her sister Jamie Lynn among 'cool ladies' who inspire her

Britney Spears has shared a series of photos of the female celebrities she looks up to, including Sharon Stone, Sarah Jessica Parker - and a few more surprising candidates.

"These are the women that have truly inspired my life!!" Spears tweeted alongside the snaps, which featured her sister Jamie Lynn Spears, Natalie Portman, Miley Cyrus and her little sister Noah Cyrus, and fitness influencer Tawny Janae, as well as Stone and Parker.

"Being away from family and my boyfriend while quarantining was really hard for me but the good thing about social media is we can connect in a different way that helps us feel not alone in this crazy world!!!" she added.

"These cool ladies always add a spark to my day."

While some fans were confused about the women who didn't make this list - including Madonna, who Spears has performed and recorded with on several occasions - others were surprised at some who did.

"Britney wouldn’t post Jamie especially not like this," one Twitter wrote, echoing the sentiments of many others who believe Spears to be estranged from her younger sister.

"I'm sorry but your sister @jamielynnspears is not an inspiring woman, on the contrary, she has been the worst sister you have," wrote another.

Many of the #FreeBritney comments on the 'Toxic' singer's post insisted that Spears hadn't written it all, claiming her team was sharing content on her behalf.

"Give Britney her damn phone back," one reply read.

"Sis we know you didn’t post this since you included your sister," said another.

The fan-led #FreeBritney movement was born out of concerns about the Grammy-winner's conservatorship, helmed by her father Jamie Spears.

The singer's sometimes erratic social media presence has fuelled rumours that Spears is secretly sending out SOS messages, exhibiting self-soothing behaviours and reading a script.

Not everyone is so sceptical, however, with some messages of support encouraging the singer to express herself as she sees fit online.

"This is a post for the women that have inspired Britney, not YOU. This is about what makes HER happy, not what other people want," one tweet read.

"Good for you Britney!!! If these women have inspired you, it's ok because life is about being happy with yourself. Hugs."
