Prince Harry has been branded a "flashlight with no batteries" by a royal commentator following he and wife Meghan Markle's bombshell, tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Speaking to Fox News on Wednesday (local time), panelist Dagen McDowell accused the Prince of being "totally useless" for failing to educate Markle on royal protocol and the expectations that come with being tied to the Royal Family.

During the interview, Markle claimed she didn't know who Prince Harry was before they met, and didn't Google him when they started dating.

Markle told Winfrey she had no idea she had to curtsy to Queen Elizabeth, Harry's grandmother.

"That was really the first moment that the penny dropped," Markle told Winfrey.

"I met her and apparently I did a very deep curtsy and I don't remember it, and then we just sat there and we chatted and it was lovely and easy. I think 'thank God I hadn't known a lot about the family, thank God I hadn't researched'."

But McDowell criticised Harry for not preparing Markle on the certain standards required of the Royal Family.

"Why didn't he school her on what was in store?" McDowell asked.

"Why didn't he tell her, 'hey maybe we should become part of the firm if we get married in the first place'.

"Prince Harry comes across as a flashlight with no batteries in it - totally useless."
