Bindi Irwin has broken down in tears while speaking of the "devastation" she feels knowing her one-month-old daughter will never get to meet her grandfather Steve Irwin.

The 22-year-old Australian conservationist and husband Chandler Powell welcomed their first baby Grace Warrior on March 25.

A month after Grace's birth, Bindi has opened up about the fact her daughter will never get to meet her grandfather.

The famous Crocodile Hunter died in 2006 after a stingray pierced his heart. Bindi was only 8-years-old at the time.

"It's hard knowing that she'll never get to actually meet him, and it's devastating because I'll never get to watch that connection," Bindi explains in a clip shared to Instagram on Thursday.

"But I cannot wait to be able to tell beautiful Grace all of these stories about dad, to be able to share with her what an amazing father he was."

Bindi pauses looking to Powell, 24, for support before welling up with tears.

"It's gonna be really special for her to know him through us. To tell her about what an amazing man he was," she continues.

"It's um, gosh, it is really hard, it's hard that he's not here because out of everyone in the world, he would have loved her the most. He would have loved her so much.

"But I think in a way he is still with us, his heart and soul lives on in all of us and so yeah he's never really gone."

The video was posted to Instagram as a teaser for the Crikey! It's A Baby! one-hour special which will stream on Discovery+.

The special will be based on Bindi's pregnancy journey.
