Review: Tom and Jerry is a fun cinema outing for the young ones

One week down, one to go, and for parents and caregivers in the need of a few hours diversion for the kids these school holidays, head for your nearest cinema.

Along with Godzilla and Kong, and Raya and the Last Dragon, Tom and Jerry have also landed.

Tom and Jerry are back on the big screen cartooning about in the real world with Chloë Grace Moretz and Michael Pina.

It's a strange animated-live action hybrid which works for the most part. The filmmakers thankfully remain true to their mute cat and mouse stars in a story which centres on a New York hotel preparing for the biggest celebrity wedding of the year.

There is clearly plenty of opportunity for chaos to ensue and indeed it does.

For those of us raised on a healthy diet of this anarchic cat and mouse game, this once over lightly won't fill our hearts, but as a school holiday distraction for the younglings in your life, it's a fun cinema outing.

Two-and-a-half stars.
