Harry Styles' new 'American accent' in Brit Award speech leaves fans baffled

Harry Styles confused his fans when he accepted his 2021 Brit Award in a distinctly un-British accent this week.

The former One Direction star took out the British Single award for his chart-topper 'Watermelon Sugar', but his acceptance speech had viewers concerned Styles had traded in his Cheshire dialect.

Twitter erupted with claims Styles was suddenly speaking in an American accent, with some fans speculating the 27-year-old's latest movie role could be to blame.

Styles has recently wrapped filming on the Olivia Wilde-directed film Don't Worry Darling, in which he plays a 1950's businessman from California.

"Thank you so much. I just continue to be baffled by moments like this," Styles said in his acceptance speech with a noticeably different drawl.

"They make me more and more incredibly grateful to be able to get to do this job every day. I'm really happy and proud to be celebrating British music tonight."

One tweet dubbed Styles losing his accent as "tragic" adding, "if he starts sounding any more American I’m taking his poster off my wall".

"WHAT IN THE MADONNAS IS HARRY STYLES' ACCENT?" another panicked fan questioned.

"Harry Styles speaking with an American accent shocked me to the core," a third offered.
