Masked Singer NZ: Eliminated Tom Sainsbury reveals which reality show he wants to do next

Comedian and political impersonator Tom Sainsbury was revealed as the Alien on The Masked Singer NZ on Sunday night - but he doesn't think his run on Kiwi reality TV is over.

Sainsbury, famous for his impressions of politicians like Paula Bennett and Simon Bridges, sang a rendition of 'Whip It' by Devo before being voted off, but it was his dance moves that really drew focus.

"I went hard with the dancing, 'Whip It' and then Bomfunk MC the first week," Sainsbury told The AM Show on Monday morning.

"I was drenched with sweat but obviously with the mask you can't wipe your sweat, so you're just stewing in your own juices."

The funnyman said his next song choice would have been 'Eye of the Tiger' by Survivor, but now that he's been eliminated from the competition, he's got his sights set on another.

"I want to do Dancing With The Stars next," he announced.

Last month it was announced that the ballroom dancing show would be returning to Three later this year, after the COVID-19 pandemic saw the ninth series postponed in April 2020.

Whether or not Sainsbury will trade his alien costume for a sequined ballroom outfit remains to be seen, but in the meantime, he issued a plea to former Deputy Prime Minister Paula Bennett to "please return to public life" to give him more material.
