Solstice: Lorde teases possible new single with eerie video

Lorde appears to be about to drop another new song, sending fans into a frenzy with an intriguing, 20-second-long video shared to her website.

The clip continues in the theme of the 24-year-old's most recent video, 'Solar Power', and shows her sitting on a beach cross-legged with a campsite and beekeepers working in the background.

Her eyes closed, Lorde seems to be meditating in the sand, the sounds of cicadas and bees growing louder before she snaps her eyes open at the last second, shooting the camera a look.

There's no music accompanying the video, but it is captioned 'Solstice', which seemingly coincides with the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere at 3.31pm today, June 21, and the shortest day of the year here in Aotearoa.

The Grammy-winner caused a stir when she dropped 'Solar Power' on June 11 after a four year hiatus. The song is the title track from her forthcoming album, however the release date has not yet been announced.

In a newsletter to fans, Lorde instructed them to "look to the natural calendar for clues" about upcoming releases.

The 'Green Light' hitmaker has made it clear she intends her latest album to act as a "summer companion" for her listeners - "The one you pump on the drive to the beach. The one that lingers on your skin like a tan as the months get cooler again," she wrote.
