Dancing with the Stars NZ postponed due to COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic means New Zealand will go another year without its version of Dancing with the Stars.

Discovery NZ, which owns Newshub, has announced the Three show is being postponed for a second consecutive year due to current alert level restrictions.

"This was a very difficult decision for everyone involved, but ultimately the right one," says Darren Chau, Senior Director of Production, Discovery ANZ.

"The health and wellbeing of our cast and crew is our absolute priority, and in light of the current COVID-19 situation it is not possible, or responsible to proceed with filming the show.

"The significant time delays coupled with ongoing uncertainty over the coming months impacts all stakeholders and we simply cannot commit to a typical schedule of live television under the current circumstances."

Due to the postponement, other programmes have been brought forward on Three and October will see the world premiere of Sydney Harbour Force, the return of Australian Ninja Warrior and the debut of Love It Or List It Australia.

Two other Three shows have also been significantly affected by the current COVID-19 restrictions: The Block NZ has been forced to postpone the 2021 live auction final and 7 Days is currently off air, unable to film at alert level four.

Further announcements regarding both shows will be made in due course, Discovery says.

Three has been home to Dancing With The Stars NZ since 2015, when it was won by Simon Barnett & Vanessa Cole.

In 2018 it was won by Samantha Hayes & Aaron Gilmore, before 2019 saw Manu Vatuvei & Loryn Reynolds win.

Discovery NZ looks forward to the return of Dancing with the Stars NZ in 2022, it says.
