'Did I look out of it?': Lorde responds to rumours she was high at the Met Gala 2021

Lorde has cleared up rumours that she may have been high at the 2021 Met Gala, perhaps fuelled by the 'Stoned at the Nail Salon' singer's recent references to drug use in her music and interviews.

The Grammy winner screamed with laughter at the assertion when The Edge radio host Meg Mansell told her people on Twitter had been speculating about it, replying: "What! Why? Did I look out of it? No, I was just nervous. It was a very intensive environment."

"No! Come on now," she added. "I did rip a cocktail very quickly once I got inside."

Mansell and her Edge Breakfast co-host Clinton Randell went on to play Lorde a clip from a recent Ed Sheeran interview in which he said he hated attending awards show, claiming: "The room is filled with resentment and hatred towards everyone else and it's quite an uncomfortable atmosphere."

Lorde didn't share the sentiment, saying she was "always pretty gassed to be at an awards show," adding: "I find it very entertaining, there's so much going on but I'm sure if you had more skin in the game maybe it would be a stressful environment."

"But I feel like I'm still kind of the outsider who is just drinking the free champagne and happy to be there," she continued.

The 24-year-old star said she still took home all her goodie bags and was earlier that day "raiding the fridge at a shoot, taking home my rider" - a sign she was "still into it" all.

Elsewhere in the interview, Lorde was delighted when a pregnant Mansell revealed her baby was due on the pop star's birthday, November 7.

"That's amazing!" Lorde responded.

"You know, that day is also Joni Mitchell's birthday and she said that she went to an astrologer as a young person, and they told her it's the day of the discoverer and the week of depth. So it's like the deepest, most mystical week of the year in astrology, apparently! Your baby will be in good company."

Mansell said she didn't know whether she was having a boy or a girl, but that she had been "warned" about the temperament of teenage Scorpio girls.

"Yeah, I mean, you know - send her to me, if things get a little hairy," Lorde responded.

"I'll be here and I'm very good at talking it all out. She might be sensitive though, just a warning."
