Nicole Richie's 40th birthday celebrations were more dramatic than she might have liked, as evidenced by a video of her hair going up in flames.
The former Simple Life star shared the shocking moment on Instagram, showing her leaning over to blow out the candles on her birthday cake before both sides of her hair caught fire.
Richie didn't appear to notice at first, only snuffing out the flames when a friend reached over to help, prompting screams from the onlookers.
The mum-of-two laughed off the incident, captioning the video: "Well... so far 40 is [flame emoji."
Richie's famous friends reacted with shock and surprise in the comments on Instagram, with Amy Schumer, Ellen Pompeo, Zooey Deschanel and more chiming in with messages like "OMG" and "hope you're okay!"
Meanwhile, Richie's husband Joel Madden couldn't miss an opportunity to employ the iconic catchphrase coined by his wife and Paris Hilton during their days on the Simple Life: "That's hot".
Hilton herself also responded, calling Richie by her nickname 'Bill'.
"OMFG," Hilton wrote. "Happy Birthday Bill! Hope you're ok! Love youuuuu."
