Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik reportedly split amid allegations he 'struck' her mother

Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik have reportedly called it quits amid a family drama that has seen the One Direction star deny allegations he "struck" Gigi's mother Yolanda Hadid during an argument.

According to celebrity gossip website TMZ, Yolanda accused Zayn of assaulting her at some stage last week and is considering filing a police report on the incident.

In response, Zayn issued a statement saying he originally agreed not to "contest claims" arising from a family member of his partner's, who he said "entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago".

The 'Pillow Talk' singer said he wanted to keep family matters out of the public eye in order to protect his young daughter Khai, who he and Gigi welcomed in September last year.

"This was and still should be a private matter, but it seems for now there is divisiveness and despite my efforts to restore us to a peaceful family environment that will allow for me to co-parent my daughter in a manner in which she deserves, this has been 'leaked' to the press," he wrote.

Zayn later provided a statement to TMZ in which he directly addressed the alleged assault, saying he "adamantly denied striking Yolanda" and declined to give any further details "for the sake of his daughter".

"I hope that Yolanda will reconsider her false allegations and move towards healing these family issues in private," he added.

Now new reports suggest Gigi and Zayn are no longer together - with TMZ suggesting they split more than a month ago. Zayn's use of the phrase "co-parent" in his statement first alerted fans and media to the idea the on-again-off-again couple may have broken up.

Gigi and Zayn were first linked in 2015 and are said to have had several breakups since then - in 2016, 2018, and 2019, before Gigi announced her pregnancy in April of 2020.
