COVID-19: Stephen Colbert pokes fun at Jacinda Ardern's relaxed 'orgy rule'

Stephen Colbert has once again poked fun at New Zealand, this time over our alleged recent relaxing of orgy rules.

The Late Show star broadcast a segment this week in which he talked about how the COVID-19 pandemic is being handled around the world, saying it is "getting better" in Aotearoa.

"New Zealand Prime Minister and dear friend of the show Jacinda Ardern announced recently that under the country's guidelines, orgies of 25 people are good to go," said Colbert.

"The orgy rule came up during an interview where Prime Minister Ardern was discussing how Tinder fits into New Zealand's colour-coded 'traffic light' COVID warning system."

The headline of a LADbible article about the 'orgy rule' flashed up on screen before a clip was played of Ardern being interviewed on Seven Sharp.

"I can confirm that Tinder liaisons have reopened... up to 25 in a red area," Ardern told the show earlier this month.

Following the clip, Colbert quipped: "I'm guessing if you have 25 people at your sex party, there's going to be more than a few red areas. There are still restrictions in place but reportedly orgy groups everywhere in New Zealand are already rejoicing."

Colbert claimed to have footage of New Zealand orgy groups rejoicing, before playing a clip from Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. The scene, from close to the film's end, sees an extremely happy Frodo joined in his bedroom by Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Merry and Pippin.

Ardern has appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert several times over the years with the pair meeting up both in the US and Aotearoa.
