Travis Scott dropped as headline act for Coachella 2022, reportedly offered to play for free

Travis Scott has reportedly been dropped from the lineup of Coachella 2022 after controversy over his involvement in the Astroworld tragedy that saw 10 killed and hundreds injured in a crowd surge.

According to Variety, sources claim Coachella contacted Scott's agent Cara Lewis with the news Scott would no longer be featured on the festival's bill, on which he had been the headline act.

Lewis reportedly tried desperately to keep the 'Sicko Mode' rapper's slot, and offered to relinquish the performance fee altogether.

A Change.org petition to see Scott removed as a performer for Goldenvoice - the entertainment company that presents the Coachella and Stagecoach festivals - has reached over 60,000 in the month since the Astroworld disaster.

"With the recent tragic and unnecessary death at Travis Scott's Astroworld concert, due to Scott's own gross negligence and sheer lack of compassion for human life, we ask AEG, Paul Tollet, and Goldenvoice to remove him as performer at all of their festivals," the petition reads.

Goldenvoice has not yet confirmed the move. The Coachella set would have marked Scott's return to the stage after the incident in Houston on November 5. The hip hop star currently faces nearly 300 civil lawsuits, including one class action suit totaling US$750 million.

Scott has denied understanding the festival had turned deadly until after the concert, just a few minutes before law enforcement dubbed it a "mass casualty event" at a press conference.
