Cardi B will cover funeral costs of 17 victims killed in deadly Bronx fire

Cardi B has offered to pay for the burial costs for all 17 of the people who were killed in a catastrophic fire in a New York City high-rise building.

The fire, thought to be caused by a broken space heater, tore through the 120-unit tower in the Bronx on January 9, hospitalising many and taking the lives of victims aged two years old through to 50.

Entire families were wiped out by the blaze, including one family of five. Some children were left orphaned by the tragedy.

Cardi B said in a statement she was "extremely proud" to be from the Bronx and has lots of family and friends who still live and work there.

"So when I heard about the fire and all of the victims, I knew I needed to do something to help," she added.

"I cannot begin to imagine the pain and anguish that the families of the victims are experiencing, but I hope that not having to worry about the costs associated with burying their loved ones will help as they move forward and heal.

"I send my prayers and condolences to everyone affected by this horrific tragedy.”

TMZ reports that the 'WAP' hitmaker has teamed up with The Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City to ensure everyone's funeral and burial expenses are covered, and the wishes of their families are met.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams told the celebrity gossip website the city would be "forever thankful" to the rapper.

"We are grateful for Cardi B, a real superstar on and off the mic, for granting some critical financial relief to families of the victims."

The fire was reportedly New York City's most deadly in three decades.
