Kanye West under criminal investigation after allegedly punching a fan, furious tirade caught on video

Kanye West is reportedly under investigation for assault after allegedly punching a fan who asked him for an autograph.

According to TMZ, the rapper got into an argument that "turned physical" at around 3am on Thursday (US time) outside the exclusive social club Soho Warehouse in Los Angeles.

The 'Gold Digger' hitmaker is accused of verbally abusing, pushing and then punching a man who approached his car asking for his signature. The man reportedly fell to the ground and the police were called after West left the scene.

TMZ reports the case is being investigated as misdemeanour battery, which carries a maximum jail sentence of six months. West's representatives are yet to comment on the situation.

The celebrity gossip website also obtained footage of West - who just legally changed his name to Ye - in the midst of an irate rant "some time between Wednesday night and Thursday morning".

The footage shows a furious West yelling: "Did y'all say that or not? Did y'all say that or not? ... [Because] that's what happened right f**king now."

Earlier that evening, the Grammy winner was followed by hordes of paparazzi and fans as he and his new girlfriend Julia Fox went out on the town in West Hollywood. The pair kissed for the cameras as West left the club and Fox returned to party with a friend.

Just over a month ago, West appeared to still be making attempts to win his ex-wife Kim Kardashian back after she filed for divorce last year. The rapper changed the lyrics of his song 'Runaway' to ask "Kimberly" to "run right back to him" during a concert with Drake.
