Movie Review: C'mon C'mon fills your heart and soul with all the colours with Joaquin Phoenix wielding the brush

Sometimes life can be black and white, and when it comes to the cinema, that experience can be even more colourful.

A new release from filmmaker Mike Mills, "C'mon C'mon" fills your heart and soul with all the colours, with Joaquin Phoenix wielding the brush.

Phoenix is radio journalist Johnny, who finds himself in the company of, and on the road with, his young nephew Jesse (Woody Norman).

Jesse's Mum, Viv (Gaby Hoffmann), has some things to sort with his dad while Johnny and Viv definitely have long-simmering sibling issues to sort too.

Unfolding with a tender gentle powerful restraint, this is a story of family in all its complexities; the simple heartbreaks and the joy, the lost art in adulthood of asking the right questions and giving truthful answers.

This uncle/nephew relationship is a deeply emotional and entertaining experience to savor, a celebration and a salute to motherhood and a reminder of how much we can all learn from the young.

"C'mon C'mon" is an enriching 4 and a half star watch.

Our sneak peek for the week is a very special one and an exclusive first look at upcoming local release "Whina"

"Whina" tells the inspirational story of Dame Whina Cooper, her tumultuous life journey and unshakeable inner strength that led her to become one of Aotearoa New Zealand's most remarkable leaders.

"Whina" will open June 23rd, in celebration of our inaugural Matariki long weekend.

At the NZ Box office this week, even with kids back at school Spider-Man and his spidey mates simply will not release their grip on the throne.

Spider-Man No Way Home is still number one.
