Review: Death on the Nile is rambling and often dull

Sir Kenneth Branagh has not one but two films in Kiwi cinemas right now.

One has seven Oscar nominations and bumped Spider-Man off the top of the box office, and the other is Death on the Nile.

Firstly, I loved Sir Kenneth's first Agatha Christie outing Murder on the Orient Express.

Now super-sleuth Hercule Poirot and his magnificent moustache are back for Death on the Nile.

Christie fans will of course know and love the story: a wealthy heiress and her new husband invite their nearest and dearest - and Poirot - on their Egyptian honeymoon. But the stunning desert vistas are soon to be dripping in blood as the body count rises and Poirot runs out of possible perpetrators.

The clues are there, as are many motives, but who will survive to tell the tale?

Look, I do love Sir Kenneth in this role and there is something delicious about two hours spent cruising down on the Nile, but this far more rambling and oftentimes even dull follow-up isn't a patch on its predecessor.
