US comedian John Oliver mocks New Zealand's tactics against anti-mandate protesters

A US comedian has jokingly mocked New Zealand for our handling of the anti-mandate protests.

In the latest episode of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver labelled our Parliament protests a copycat version of the convoy protests in Canada, but said New Zealand had a "novel" way to clear the obstruction.

The program said New Zealand officials had attempted to use softer tactics to get people to move such as playing songs like 'You're Beautiful' by James Blunt and music from Disney movies.

But Oliver said these tactics "clearly" aren't going to cut it.

"Oh come on New Zealand," Oliver said. "You're not going to move on people this angry with the actions of a bad wedding DJ."

He claimed the best song to get people to pack up and leave is the band Blind Monday’s cover of the Disturbed song 'Down With The Sickness'.

"[It's] the only song guaranteed to clear a room… 100 percent successful."

Oliver isn't the only one to criticize Speaker Trevor Mallard's tactics to attempt to move the protesters.

Mallard's use of sprinklers and "silly" songs have been under fire by politicians, with ACT Party leader David Seymour deeming it as "childish" and "immature".

Meanwhile Police have distanced themselves from Mallard and have said they are taking a de-escalation approach towards the protesters.
