Lorde has postponed a concert at Mohegan Sun Arena in the US state of Connecticut due to being physically unable to perform after being struck down with an illness.

"These past couple days I've been pushing through some horrendous laryngitis and I regret to inform you that my voice hasn't sufficiently recovered to play the show for you tonight," the Grammy award winning singer said in a statement on Friday (local time).

"I am so so sorry I don't take postponing a show lightly."

She also postponed her Saturday show in Washington DC, Rolling Stone reported.

Lorde apologised for postponing the concert and said she will be ready to party when she's feeling better again.

"I've tried everything and unfortunately, it's physically impossible for me to sing much of the set. Please accept my sincere apologies.

"All well besides that and absolutely frothing to party with you when I am able."

Lorde's Solar Power world tour kicked off in Nashville last week, marking her first tour since before the pandemic began, Rolling Stone reported.
