Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has been warmly welcomed back to Australia by new Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and while they exchanged ideas on how to better their Trans-Tasman relationship they also swapped their favourite music.

There was a lot on the pair's agenda, including the 501 deportation issue, regional security, climate change, Kiwis' rights in Australia - and their music taste.

Ardern landed in Sydney on Thursday, heading straight for dinner with her Aussie counterpart and carried a few vinyl records in tow.

"Just finished up a lovely dinner with the new Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese," Ardern posted on Instagram.

"He was kind enough to gift me Midnight Oil, Spiderbait and Powderfinger on vinyl, so we left him with a few Flying Nun treats in return.

"Looking forward to the formal meeting we have scheduled for tomorrow, there's a lot on the agenda!"

But Gayford wasn't impressed with the Aussies' choice in music, sledging it in the comments.

"Midnight Oil, Spiderbait and The Finger????!!!! What is this, 2004???" He commented.

"More like 1994... but truth is, it’s timeless," one person replied.

"Albo is our first pub rock PM!" Another person commented.

To which Gayford replied: "Should have least chucked a bit of Wolfmother in."

Ardern is scheduled to return to New Zealand on Friday evening.
