GoFundMe shuts down fake fundraiser claiming to raise money to help Amber Heard pay Johnny Depp

GoFundMe has removed a fake fundraiser claiming to raise funds to help Amber Heard pay some of the NZ$15.9 million in damages to Johnny Depp.

Last week, a jury in the United States found Heard had defamed her ex-husband Johnny Depp. The jurors also decided Heard would pay Depp NZ$15.9 million in damages.

The fundraiser was published on Saturday (local time), with the goal of raising US$1 million (NZ$1.5 million), TMZ reported.

Screenshots of the page shared by TMZ show the author claimed to be in contact with Heard's legal team and that Heard would have access to all funds.

The "Justice for Amber Heard" fundraiser detailed the disappointment in the verdict and dubbed the trial a "disgrace".

"I believe Amber, and social media protected the abuser. The judgement exceeds her net worth. It's so sad that he was able to get away with the abuse," it said.

"The judgement furthers that abuse. If you can please help her. She will have the direct access to the money. I also contact her attorney so they can loop her in."

A GoFundMe spokesperson told TMZ the page was flagged and removed before a "substantial" amount of money was raised.

GoFundMe determined neither Heard nor her legal team created the page, so they removed it.

Heard was last week ordered to pay Depp NZ$15.9 million in damages relating to lost jobs and career opportunities and NZ$7.6 million in punitive damages.

The jury also found Heard was defamed, awarding her NZ$3.1 million.

Heard's lawyer Elaine Charlson Bredehoft has previously said her client would not be able to pay the damages.
